Nine more charged in Turkey match-fixing probe

A Turkish court Friday charged nine more people in connection with a match-fixing probe, bringing to 13 the total number of suspects jailed pending trial, Anatolia news agency reported.

Among the nine men were a coach and six footballers from Turkey s second and third divisions as well as a manager and a retired player, Anatolia said.

The detailed charges against the suspects will become known when prosecutors draw up their indictment.

Another seven people were released after questioning, Anatolia said.

The authorities have imposed a media blackout on the probe, handled by prosecutors in Istanbul, Turkey s biggest city and football centre.

The operation began Wednesday as police rounded up 46 suspects across Turkey, including players from the cou…

´There has been too much harmony´ – Vogts calls for more friction to get Germany back on track

Former Germany head coach Berti Vogts hopes a new healthy culture of debate can help the national team return to its former glory.

Germany crashed out of the World Cup at the group stage, which led to team director Oliver Bierhoff leaving his role.

There was speculation boss Hansi Flick would follow him, but the former Bayern Munich coach has confirmed he will be staying on board.

Vogts, who led Germany between 1990 and 1998, believes the German Football Association (DFB) has paid the price for fostering a harmonious atmosphere and wants Matthias Sammer appointed to ruffle some feathers.

2 – Germany have failed to get past the group stage at each of the last two World Cups, after they had made it past the first round in each of the previous 16 tourname…

Pjanic backs under-fire Buffon to ´prove he´s number one´

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic has backed Gianluigi Buffon to prove he remains the best goalkeeper in the world despite two costly mistakes in recent matches.

Buffon presented Vitolo with a simple finish when he completely missed an interception during Italy s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with Spain on October 6.

The Juve captain fared little better on his return to club action on Saturday, as he allowed Jakub Jankto s shot to squeeze beneath his grasp to give Udinese the lead, before Paulo Dybala s double rescued a victory.

Pjanic, however, says the 38-year-old will produce his very best form when Juve take on Lyon in Tuesday s Champions League Group H encounter.

Buffon is our captain. I don t think he s having a bad spell, Pjanic told a news confe…

AFC Bournemouth v Manchester City: De Bruyne, Nasri give timely boost to Pellegrini

Manchester City could welcome back Kevin De Bruyne and Samir Nasri for their Premier League trip to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

Manuel Pellegrini s side went into the international break off the back of a damaging 1-0 derby defeat to Manchester United which leaves them just a one-point cushion on their city rivals and West Ham in the top-four race.

City s away form has blighted their league campaign all season they have only won two of their last 11 top-flight matches on the road and have scored just six goals in the last 10 of those games.

However, with De Bruyne available again after recovering from knee and ankle damage sustained in January and Nasri having returned to training this week after missing five months with a groin problem, those attacking concerns…

Klopp, Sagnol, Luis Enrique – who could replace Ancelotti at Bayern Munich?

Carlo Ancelotti has become the first coaching casualty of the season among Europe s heavyweights, with Bayern Munich sacking him on Thursday and placing assistant Willy Sagnol in interim charge.

The 58-year-old s time at the Allianz Arena has been brought to an end less than 15 months after he was appointed as Pep Guardiola s replacement, making it his shortest spell as head coach of a club since he spent a year at Reggiana in 1995-96.

Ancelotti won the Bundesliga in his only full season in charge, and claimed the DFL-Supercup in August, but reports of dissent within the dressing room have grown in recent weeks and came to a head when Arjen Robben refused to back him publicly in the wake of the 3-0 Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

Mali 4 Mauritania 1: Marega helps down AFCON debutants

Mauritania fell to a 4-1 loss against Mali on their Africa Cup of Nations bow.

The tournament newcomers were not disgraced in Suez on Monday but found Mali s extra experience and quality in attack too much to handle in the Group E clash.

Mali captain Abdoulay Diaby scored a wondergoal to open the scoring and Porto striker Moussa Marega added their second from the penalty spot.

And they made sure of all three points when Adama Noss jinked into space and rifled home from the edge of the area, although Moctar Sidi El Hacen converted a consolation penalty before Adama Traore wrapped up the scoring with a stunning curler.

Mauritania showed few nerves on their AFCON debut and could have opened the scoring in the first minute, Ismael Diakite narrowly missing …

Ibrahimovic to stay at PSG beyond 2016

Re-signed Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed a desire to retire while he is still at the top of his game.

The towering Swede, 31, signed a one-year extension at the Parc des Princes, and said doing so will keep him motivated to perform in the red, white and blue shirt.

Ibrahimovic also said he will stay beyond his new contract, which expires in 2016, should the club desire his services.

I think yes, I think yes, if they still want me here, which I believe now that they want, Ibrahimovic said, when asked about his future beyond this contract.

I said I will stop when I m on the top and I will feel like by signing one more year gives me more motivation to train even harder, to develop even more.

PSG were given a massive boost in 2011 …

NFL Underdogs: Jason Logan’s Favorite Picks for Week 2

I live for betting Week 2 of the NFL schedule.

We’re still early enough into the season where the playing field between books and bettors is fairly level and, thanks to a football-starved fanbase, the opening results are blown way out of proportion. That can open up opportunities to counter those knee-jerk reactions.

For example, NFL underdogs went a blazing 12-4 ATS overall in Week 1.

You would assume a guy who writes a weekly column giving his best NFL betting picks solely on teams getting the points would be ecstatic. However, many of my favorite Week 2 bets are teams giving the points. That made figuring out my top NFL underdogs picks for Week 2 a little tricky.

Luckily, overreaction from openers is leading the way like a fullback smack…

Women´s World Cup star Alex Morgan ruled out for rest of 2019

The Pride said in a statement Morgan had  a patella stress reaction in her right knee stemming from an injury sustained while with the national team.

It s obviously difficult to lose a player of Alex s calibre due to injury,  Pride general manager Erik Ustruck said.

However, after consulting with the club’s medical team at Orlando Health and U.S. Soccer, we felt it was in the best interest of Alex s long-term health to shut her down for the season to focus on the rehabilitation process and take the appropriate time to recover from the lingering knee injury.

The striker has been nursing the injury since she was substituted during USA s group game against Sweden at the World Cup in June.

She returned to play in the remaining games of the tournament,…
