Porto expect a tough UEFA Champions League encounter with Basel on Wednesday and dismiss suggestions they are favourites to go through.
Julen Lopetegui has rejected claims Porto are favourites to progress from their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie with Basel.
The two-time winners have been in imperious form so far in the competition, topping Group H unbeaten, while their 16 goals in the first round proper was bettered only by Chelsea.
Wednesday may be the first meeting between the two sides but Lopetegui has denied the Primeira Liga outfit start the tie as favourites.
There are no favourites in a game like this, say what you like, he said. The only reality is that it starts 0-0.
This is a beautiful and historic game. Let s go with all the amb…
West Ham United have lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the ongoing Carlos Tevez affair, the arbitration body confirmed on Wednesday.
The London club are facing a potential 30-million pounds (38.5 million euro) fine after an English Football Association (FA) tribunal ruled that Tevez had been ineligible to play in 2006 due to contractual irregularities.
That ruling favoured Sheffield United, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2006-07 season instead of West Ham, after Tevez helped the Hammers claw their way to safety.
The CAS has initiated an arbitration procedure and will first examine its jurisdiction as a preliminary issue after both clubs have had the opportunity to file written submissions on this…
Three out of ten last week. I’m not going to defend myself, I’m just going to keep on trying!
Saturday 15th November 2008
Arsenal v Aston Villa
Every week Arsenal let me down! If I predict they’re going to win they lose or draw. Then last week I tipped them to lose to Manchester United and they go and win. They are so unpredictable.
Aston Villa were looking really good and looking as though they might be able to launch an assault on the top four, but two defeats on the trot has restored the normal order of things.
Arsenal to win this one. (Sorry Arsenal fans!)
SoccerNews prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Aston Villa
Blackburn v Sunderland
Blackburn aren’t very good really but Sun…
Real Madrid-bound Vinicius Junior scored a brace to help Flamengo to victory in the Copa Libertadores, while Atletico Nacional enjoyed a big win.
Vinicius, the 17-year-old forward who has already been signed by Madrid, came off the bench to see Flamengo overcome Emelec 2-1 in Group 4 Wednesday.
The Brazilian came on with his team 1-0 down in Guayaquil, where Brayan Angulo had put the hosts ahead with a deflected strike in the 65th minute.
But Vinicius took over from there, beating three markers down the right before cutting inside and finishing to make it 1-1.
He scored the winner in the 85th minute, playing a one-two with former Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen star Diego before curling a finish into the corner from just inside the area.
Flamengo rem…

Egypt begin their World Cup preparation with a mouth-watering friendly against European champions Portugal, who aim to continue their flying form from their European Championship win back in 2016.

French daily that Fulham have inquired about Marseille midfielder Morgan Amalfitano.
The Cottagers are planning a major squad overhaul in the summer and they have already signed Fernando Amorebieta and Derek Boateng.

The 28-year-old footballer has a contract until June 2015 at Stade Velodrome and he recently admitted he wouldn t mind staying at the club.
However, it is believed he would be tempted by an offer from English Premier League, obviously provided Fulham can reach an agreement with his current employers.
Amalfitano joined Marseile from Lorient on a free transfer in the summer of 2011, but he hasn t quite managed to live up to his pote…
Italian daily that AS Roma are keen on Udinese players Mehdi Benatia and Roberto Pereyra.
According to the latest reports, the Giallorossi are wrapping up a €6 million deal for Benatia, but they are also interested in luring his teammate to Stadio Olimpico.
Roma are actively seeking a right-sided full-back and they could decide to go for the Argentine, provided the price is right.
Roberto Pereyra joined Udinese from River Plate in the summer of 2011, but he made just 11 Serie A appearances during his first season in Italy.
He has since nailed down a regular starting berth at Friuli, and went on to score 5 goals in 37 league matches this term.

Michael Ballack must lead Germany by example as the national team look to bounce back from home defeats in their last two games, insisted German Football Federation (DFB) boss Theo Zwanziger on Wednesday.
Germany face minnows Liechtenstein in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday in Leipzig, but after home defeats by Norway and England in their last two games, Chelsea star Ballack must lead his team to a comfortable victory, says DFB boss Zwanziger.
Ballack must lead from the front, DFB president Zwanziger told German magazine Sport Bild.
Ballack landed himself in hot water with the DFB last October for accusing Germany coach Joachim Loew of not showing his senior players enough respect and loyalty.
The Germany captain apologised two weeks later, but neithe…
Temuri Ketsbaia on Monday resigned from his position as manager of Cypriot champions Anorthosis Famagusta only months after taking them to the Champions League group stage, the club said.
A statement from the club said the 40-year-old Georgian had handed in his resignation to the board during a routine meeting on Monday evening.
